I just thought I would do a quick 100th post. Actually for Supergeekblog it is the 287th total post.
Supergeekblog first went live on September 1st, 2005 with three editors. Olorinpc (me), ThatEdeGuy, and Irrision. Due to different projects and whatnot, SGB kind of withered away for a year with minimal posting. A few months ago I resurrected it and have been working on building it back up since.
Here is how the site has looked in the past:
Nov. 2005

Jul. 2006

Jul. 2008

Nov. 2008+
You are looking at it! I am still making tweaks to the template. I started with one I liked and then I am ending up rewriting chunks of it as I see fit. (I have rewritten quite a few of the pages/functions at this point.)
Well I hope you enjoyed that little look back at SuperGeekBlog and I hope you continue to visit in the future! If you have seen all 4 revisions of the site – you clearly have and it is appreciated!

The “Geek Dad” blog has a great post today on the “5 Signs President-Elect Obama is a Geek.” Now whether or not you were an Obama supporter, I think some of the are both funny and good.
I think one thing all of us geeks can agree on, we have been horribly lacking in elected officials who understand tech, techies, and the web.
I had forgotten that Obama is a trekkie… that one brought a smile. Anyways, head on over there to take a look. It is worth the time.

I love blogging… I am sometimes random and lazy at it, but I really do love it. (If I spent less time reading other blogs and more working on the various blogs I run I might get more done.)
Anywho – this particular post I am trying from the Firefox plugin: ScribeFire. First impression, where is the catch? Is there a hidden charge or donation button somewhere? This addon so far is working exactly, even better than, promised. Linking all of my blogs and being able to select between them inside of the addon, writing this post, etc… all simple.
It took me less than a minute to install, configure it for 5 blogs, and start working on this post. I will have a followup post on this later after I work with it some more – however if you are a blogger and are currently logging in to post your work (ie wordpress create new post screen) I would encourage you to try this – it rocks.

Ensemble Studios is working on a new Halo game. This one, Halo Wars, is a Real Time Strategy game along the lines of the Age of Empires games(made by Ensemble as well). It will be released as a Xbox 360 game only. No word as yet as to when the release date is.
They do however have a trailer available.

Limewire, an app that we all know and love got sued by the RIAA. So, what did they do? Well, they didn’t lay down and take it. They countersued.
They claim that the RIAA
goal was simple: to destroy any online music distribution service they did not own or control, or force such services to do business with them on exclusive and/or other anticompetitive terms so as to limit and ultimately control the distribution and pricing of digital music, all to the detriment of consumers. (Counterclaim, paragraph 26, page 18).
Way to go. It’s about time that someone took it to the RIAA. And it just might have legs. The best part is that they are demanding a trial by jury.
Way to go Limewire!

Intel announced the development of the world’s first hybrid silicon laser. I probably don’t need to explain the potential that this has to crack open the glass ceiling that we’ve all been staring at for processor speed. But I did over at Thatedeguy anyways.
It’s fun to think of what we might be able to accomplish with this new technology. The limits are yet unknown, but we will almost certainly see a jump in the speeds of our processors.

flagrantdisregard.com keeps a running list of the top 100 digital cameras that are attributed to pictures on Flickr. The list is recompiled each week and the rankings updated. With as many users as there are on Flickr, you wouldn’t think that the rankings would change very often.
The Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT is in the top spot up from spot 2 last week while the Nikon D50 is in spot 2 down from spot 1 last week. I would imagine that those two are the most used and as a result they switch back and forth depending on who took more pictures each week. The rest of the list is a pretty good indicator of what could be up and coming models and might be a good way to select your next digital camera.

There were some big announcements out of Apple yesterday. New iPods, new services, but the one that got missed was the Apple Mac Pro running dual core chips. And further, says AnandTech, the ability to run Quad core chips. Dual quad core chips at that. Eight cores. Wowsa.
We grabbed a pair of 2.4GHz Clovertown samples and tossed them in the system, and to our pleasure, they worked just fine. Our samples used a 1066MHz FSB, although we’re expecting the final chip to use a 1333MHz FSB, but the most important part of the test is that all 8 cores were detected and functional.
They used a pair of pre-release samples, but when the retail ones are released it could be fun. They couldn’t give us any true benchmarks because of the pre-release nature, but they did say that they were unable to max out the processors.

There’s been a bit of buzz lately about the says-it official seal generator so we thought we’d give it a go and try to create one for SuperGeekBlog. It certainly isn’t perfect, but we think it does all right.
You can click on it to see it in its full-size glory. You can also visit says-it to create your own.

Well folks, it looks like all of us here at SGB have gotten a bit distracted with our other projects. Don’t worry – we are still around and are looking to get a fresh jump on this site.
If anyone has any submissions for us, please feel free to send them our way!
Thanks!
