Saw 2 episodeds of the show for the first time a couple of days ago followed by the making of on the scifi chan. First intro into the firefly verse… dived into the community online to learn what i could.
Reactions: Instantly loved the show… it just has something different about it that the scifi scene needs. The movie is going to be a great addition to it from what ive seen. The fanbase is amazing. Wheatons dedication to this fanbase is as equally amazing.
I really think this movie is going to be something for us all to go see, and I am not expecting to be dissapointed.

The site is actually pretty cool. The site is divided into different areas, the 30-year timeline (being one of the coolest areas) is divided into four content areas: Products; Driving Innovation; Microsoft People and Culture; and Big Picture – the company’s present and future. Looking at where MS has been and what it has become, really does remind one how much technology really has changed our lives in the past 30 years.
Check it out if even for memory sake - also send one of the ecards… those are fun… not that I sent any of them lol.

This has to be one of the most amazing things I’ve seen in a little while. Sure it’s nothing fancy, and it really isn’t all that technical looking, but the concept is the awesome part. How long have people been talking about the “internet OS”? Well here is the “proofofconcept/desktop”.
My question is this: How long before the people responsible for this site are hired by Google? How long after that does it take before we see Google RealDesktop?
Take a look at the online desktop here.

Tired of the Google, Yahoo “I have more sites indexed” battle? Or simply use both to compare listing ranks? Well do I have a treat for you…
It’s a site called Gahoo!Yoogle.
As you can probably tell by the name ( and you will figure it out by the logo for sure) its a site that combines the searching power of Google and Yahoo. Enter in your search words or phrase and Gahoo!Yoogle shows the results in a vertically split window. One side for Google and the other for Yahoo. Now you only have to go to one site for comparing the placement of your favorite search.
If you’re like me at all, you’ll spend nearly an hour doing searches on random keywords and sites just comparing the results.
While Gahoo!Yoogle doesn’t answer the “who’s better” question, It solves the which engine to use problem just fine.

Ok, so the new $10 bill being unveiled isn’t necessarily geeky, but the think looks pretty darn cool. And the “geeky” technology that goes into revamping one of these things is enough for a quick mention here.
Take a look at pictures and a story on cnn.

Intel and Microsoft came off of the fence yesterday by announcing that they were going to be backing the HD DVD format instead of sony’s Blu-Ray.
For some reason, I was under the impression that Microsoft had already endorsed the HD DVD format as it is reportedly the format that the Xbox 360 uses.
A spokesman stated that they hope that their jumping on the HD DVD bandwagon will “tip” the scale in HD DVD’s direction.
Besides Sony, Dell and HP, Blu-ray allies include Apple Computer, Electronic Arts, Panasonic, Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Sun Microsystems, Twentieth Century Fox, Vivendi Universal and Walt Disney.
HD DVD backers include HBO, NEC, New Line Cinema Paramount Home Entertainment, Sanyo, Toshiba, Universal Studios Home Entertainment and Warner Home Video.

A battle for your web dollars is beginning to shape up even more between Microsoft and Google.
See those nice little “Ads by Google…” ads on the right hand side of this page? Well, if Uncle Bill Gates gets his way, they may read “Ads by MSN…” soon. Microsoft was scheduled to announce thier very own content ads that would be available through their MSN service today. Appearantly, aside from being content based, MSN ads would also be focused a little further. Reportedly the plans are to also allow the advertisers to focus on Sex, Age and Location.
Harkens back to my days on IRC when every other chatter was asking ASL.
For example, men searching for “roses” might see ads for florists’ Web sites, while women may see gardening-supply store ads.
While they plan on using selling these ads for use on mostly the MSN search and other MSN related sites to begin with, one can only assume that they would ideally like to see them on every other site just like Google Adsense ads are.
While I have no problem with MSN search ads like the Google Adsense ads, we do have a problem with them selling ads to be inserted into their products. At least in any obtrusive method of delivery.
Microsoft plans to try offering some of its software products in free versions that will display advertising sold by the new system, Mr. Mehdi said. He declined to say which products would be offered, but said they were likely to include games and other consumer products. The company will also sell ads that may appear on video games played on the Xbox game console and perhaps on its software that runs on cellphones and television sets.

Let me preface this with the following statement: The following post is purely speculation and should not be taken as a leak or any other form of actual known actions by Apple Computers. It is merely the musings of a SuperGeek…
Given: Apple has a fair following, both of its Computer lines and most recently of its IPod(Nano) lines, some of it bordering on extremism. Apple’s fans have been compared to “lemmings“.
Apple has gained a fair amount of success with their Mac(intosh) lines and a great amount of early success with their Ipod line, so where do they go next.
Much of the focus at this point has been on their switching from PowerPC chips from IBM to Pentium chips from Intel. However I believe that the next big Apple step is in another direction.
It will be a big step, and if it isn’t done right a risky one, but I think that Apple will not only try it, but will pull it off. So, your probably asking what it is that I am talking about?
Well. Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo lookout. Apple is coming to town. A game system is the next big thing for Apple. They already have the fan base to sell a fairly good amount of them on opening day. All they have to do is put out a quality product with a good game lineup. They could even throw in a PSP like portable gamer with built in Ipod functionality. A console could have a built in Ipod port and built in hard drives for nearly instant Media Center capabilities. Stamp a big little i on it and call it the iBase or iStation(too much like playstation I think).
Of course, this is just speculation. If it does happen however, remember where you heard it first. Right here on www.SuperGeekBlog.com
